The Alternative Atlas of Lesvos: an island for the world

-with ECF

Location: Lesvos
Date: 2018

The Alternative Atlas of Lesvos is a research project that proposed to discover and communicate the many layers that make Lesvos special, including it's rich cultural history and natural assets.

Using a variety of research activities, events and interviews, we gathered original research about the residents’ skills and interests, favourite spaces, local stories, and aspirations for the island. As part of our outreach to initiate conversations with local residents we also hosted three sensory exhibitions: Tastes of Lesvos wherein we invited people to join us for a cup of traditional soup to exchange stories about Lesvos; Sounds of Lesvos wherein themed soundscapes were presented with an invitation to share memories that the sounds triggered; and Scents of Lesvos wherein a collection of herbs, spices and other local produce were presented with an invitation to share memories that the scents evoked.
