Rebuilding Home, Street + Neighbourhood

[In Partnership with Architects for Gaza- Gaza Global University and Global Free Unit]

Rebuilding Home, Street and Neighbourhood brings together sixty displaced Palestinian students and teachers to convene for one month in Cairo and occupied Palestine to explore how to lead the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza through the lens of architecture and urban design.

This workshop will be the first “studio” of the new Gaza Global University [GGU], a hybrid virtual and physical initiative that brings together academics and practitioners to advance education for Palestinian students and scholars. This unique workshop, designed in collaboration with the Architects for Gaza network [AfG], Office of Displaced Designers [ODD] and Global Free Unit [GFU], will result in assessed work equivalent to one semester of study that is accredited by university partners, including An-Najah National University. The work will also be shared through a publication and travelling exhibition that generates hope and secures the physical, human and academic resources needed to continue this vital work.

Since the start of the genocide, over 40,000 people have been killed, approximately 2 million forcibly displaced and more than 60% of the built environment has been decimated. There is a great and urgent need to reimagine the transformation of Gaza and ensure that recovery and reconstruction efforts are rooted in local community practices centred on healing the land and its people.

The Rebuilding Home, Street + Neighbourhood fund will provide:

  • Full student sponsorship for one month of credited learning

  • Competitive honorariums for out-of-work teachers and supporting staff

  • Psychosocial support for all participants

  • Subsistence and travel allowance for all participants

  • Internet data allowance

  • Workshop supplies

  • Exhibition, publication and media costs

  • Token honorariums for international guest speakers

  • Associated legal and accounting costs

A donation of 500 Euros will sponsor a student- but no amount is too small.

Join us in supporting displaced Palestinian students, academics and practitioners to build a brighter and more equitable future for Gaza.
