About the role
The ODD Resources Library provides curated collections on specific crises and topics to support understanding of the complex issues related to displacement and marginalisation, and how these manifest in different contexts. We seek to present local and marginalised voices wherever possible. The resources are created with our audience of architecture and design professionals and humanitarian actors in mind.
The Voluntary Research Assistant will play a central role in developing this initiative. The Research Assistant will primarily be responsible for conducting desk research and some direct inquiries to build a comprehensive resources library that aligns with ODD's goals and objectives. Key Responsibilities:
Conduct Desk Research:
Utilise online databases, academic journals, websites, and other relevant sources to gather information on topics related to displacement, marginalisation and design.
Identify and compile resources such as articles, reports, case studies, best practices, toolkits, and other materials relevant to ODD's focus areas.
Evaluate the credibility, relevance, and applicability of gathered resources to ensure they meet ODD's standards and objectives.
Direct Inquiries:
Communicate with relevant organisations, institutions, experts, and stakeholders through email, calls, or other means to gather additional information and resources.
If required, coordinate and conduct interviews and surveys to gather insights, perspectives, and first-hand experiences relevant to ODD's initiatives.
Document and summarise findings from direct inquiries in a clear and organised manner for inclusion in the resources library.
Resource Library Development:
Help create processes and policies to support the ethical development of the resource library.
Organise and categorise gathered resources in a structured manner using appropriate tools or software (e.g., Google Drive, Adobe Suite, Squarespace ).
Develop descriptive summaries or annotations for each resource to provide context, key insights, and relevance to ODD's work.
Regularly update and maintain the resources library to ensure it remains current, accurate, and accessible to ODD team members and stakeholders.
Collaboration and Reporting:
Collaborate with other team members, including directors, to identify priority areas for research and resource development.
Provide regular updates on progress, challenges, and insights gained from research activities to the designated supervisor.
Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and collaborative discussions to contribute ideas, share findings, and support ongoing projects and initiatives.
About You:
Passion for social justice, human rights, and supporting displaced and marginalised communities.
Strong research skills, including the ability to gather, analyse, and synthesise information from diverse sources.
Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders.
Detail-oriented and organised, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
Proficiency in using digital tools and technology for research, documentation, and communication.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
Previous experience or coursework in fields such as social sciences, international development, humanitarian aid, or architecture and planning is desirable but not required.
